To work as an Oracle DBA within departments live service DBA technology team. The team is responsible for support of production and non production databases, incident management, maintaining live services in line with agreed SLAs and OLAs and developing and maintaining technical standards.
- Oracle Installation planning and implementation. - Creation and support of Oracle databases across development, test and live environments. - Develop and deliver standard maintenance and patching of Oracle software and databases in development environments. - Develop database related changes in the development environment. - Database administration for live and test Oracle databases. - Pro-active monitoring of live Oracle databases to identify and resolve potential problems before they impact the department. - Deliver standard maintenance and patching of Oracle software and databases to ensure that systems remain supportable. - Delivery of databases related changes to test and live environments. - Ensure that standby databases are kept up to date and ready for use. - Respond to service desk incidents as per agreed SLAs. - Performance monitoring/tuning. - Database capacity planning. - Experience and knowledge of supporting Oracle 9i, 10g and 11g databases in a complex and business critical environment on UNIX and Windows. - RAC administration and configuration. - ASM administration. - Dataguard Standby configuration and failover. - Database creation/maintenance. - Listener/tnsnames configuration. - User/Security administration. - Database space management. - Database cloning. - Grid control.
- Performance monitoring/tuning. - Backup/recovery (including rman). - Utilities (sqlldr,imp/exp,impdp/expdp). - Software updates and database upgrades. - Experience of Oracle Application Server and OID/SSO would be desirable. - Knowledge of ITIL processes/standards. - SQL Server knowledge would be desirable. - Ability to work calmly under pressure and juggle conflicting priorities. - Ability to work as part of a team and participate in peer to peer knowledge transfer. - Willingness to embrace new technologies. - Willingness to work alongside supplier consultants and to absorb their expert knowledge. - Strong customer service ethos.

Summary:
To ensure the operational functionality, availability, efficiency, backup/recovery and security of the company's Oracle databases and manage access to that data from applications in use throughout the business. To design, implement and support both production and test database environments.
DUTIES: - Ensures the availability and performance of the Oracle databases used throughout the business - Proactively and vigilantly monitors databases - Minimises the amount of downtime required to perform administrative tasks - Plans capacity to project database server hardware lifetime - Implements releases of database changes as submitted by the development team - Develops and implements a process to refresh test data to enable repeatable test runs - Ensures that stored procedures, triggers and user-defined functions are effectively planned, implemented, shared and reused - Responsible for improvement and maintenance of databases to include rollout and upgrades - Develops and implements a strategic blueprint for deploying databases within the organization - Manages migrations from release to release of the DBMS - Assists the programmers in the creation of database load and unload jobs to set up test databases - Sets up scripts to read the production statistics and copy them to the test environment
SKILLS / EXP:
Knowledge and understanding of established best practice and policies for all aspects of the DBMS Oracle database administration using versions 11g, 10g and 9i Experience of high volume, transactional 24x 7 x 365 Unix system (Solaris) and Linux Experience of Oracle Enterprise Manager Experience of cluster technologies (VCS) for High Availability and resilience Oracle Data Guard experience Discoverer administration Database monitoring tools (Quest) Performance analysis and tuning Optimal normalization in database design Creating and interpreting entity-relationship diagrams Methods of moving large quantities of data between databases Backup and recovery techniques (RMAN, Oracle Standby Server, Veritas) Strong Oracle PL/SQL knowledge Shell scripting experience Good understanding of ITIL Framework, Project Management and Agile methods
